Hannah Hoel was born in Los Alamos, NM and grew up in New York and Connecticut moving back to New Mexico in 2005. She comes from a family of academics, strong women, and is a third generation model. Rumors of French Vogue dangling above her crib persist and sartorial introspection remains fundamental to her visual culture. She learned to spin wool and knit while home schooled in upstate New York. She received a BA in Visual Culture from Goldsmiths College in London, a BFA from the Santa Fe University of Art and Design, and an MA in Eastern Classics from St. John’s College in Santa Fe. She lives in Santa Fe and works as semiotician and art critic.
